World Haemophilia Day 2021

Tue, 13 Apr 2021

World Haemophilia Day is celebrated annually on the 17th April, the date of the birthday of Frank Schnabel, founder of the World Federation of Haemophilia. Since 1989, World Haemophilia Day is the day the whole of the bleeding disorders community comes together to celebrate the continuous advances in Treatment and to encourage improvements in the lives of persons with Haemophilia and all Bleeding Disorders.
The theme of World Hemophilia Day 2021 is “Adapting to Change: sustaining care in a new world”. This important event is about bringing the global bleeding disorders community together. With the COVID-19 pandemic having a major impact on people with a bleeding disorder, that objective has never been more important. The world has changed greatly over the last year, but one thing hasn’t is that the world has a shared vision of “Treatment for All”.
The National Haemophilia Council (NHC) and the Irish Haemophilia Society supported by the HSE work together to improve the lives of persons with Haemophilia and to raise awareness of bleeding disorders in Ireland. The Irish Haemophilia Society provides a range of support services to those living with Haemophilia and other Bleeding Disorders in Ireland.
There are 3 Haemophilia Comprehensive Care Centres (3CCC) in Ireland and a Treatment Centre in University Hospital Galway.  The 3CCC’s are in the following hospitals:
  • National Coagulation Centre, St. James’s Hospital, James Street, Dublin
  • Children’s Health Ireland at Crumlin, Dublin
